ABOUT THE International Food Science Center
The International Food Science Center (IFSC) is a shared-use food processing facility launched by Export Barbados (BIDC) in November 2022. Located at the Newton Industrial Estate, the IFSC supports food processors in developing and manufacturing products to international standards, with a focus on food safety, quality, process efficiency and export readiness.
The facility provides co-manufacturing services, food processing equipment and technical support for both large and small food processors. The IFSC currently manufactures pepper mash, pepper sauce, barbeque sauce, ketchup, wet seasonings, beverages, flours, jams and other food products.
The IFSC was established following an International Trade Centre feasibility study commissioned by BIDC to support the agro-food processing sector, with a specific focus on condiments and export development.
The International Food Science Center is committed to providing co-manufacturing facilities, food processing equipment and technical services that consistently meet customer, statutory, regulatory, food safety and quality requirements.
We are committed to producing safe, high-quality, healthy food products; applying risk-based thinking in our operations; maintaining effective GMP, HACCP and Quality Management Systems; continually improving the effectiveness of our management systems; ensuring personnel are competent through appropriate training; and strengthening communication and collaboration with customers, stakeholders and partners.
Management is committed to providing the resources necessary to achieve our food safety and quality objectives, support continual improvement and enhance customer satisfaction.

The IFSC features a compact laboratory on the ground floor of the Newton facility to provide quality analysis, including salt analysis, Brix, viscosity, specific gravity, pH, water activity, moisture content, and temperature. The lab will soon be offering microbiological analyses.
On the ground floor, the Food Science Center also produces onion puree, and pepper mash. This service helps large and small processors reduce the time needed to prepare the raw materials used in sauces and seasonings.
On the first floor, a Small Batch Kitchen produces sauces, jams, beverages, wet seasonings, and other innovative products for micro businesses manufacturing less than 150 gallons.
