The International Food Science Center’s (IFSC) newly formulated signature brand, Landship Foods, is already generating export sales and making a name for itself on the world market. The IFSC is an initiative of Export Barbados (BIDC).
During the 2024 edition of Agrofest, the National Agricultural Exhibition, on Saturday, Chief Executive Officer of Export Barbados (BIDC) Mark Hill revealed that he was pleased with the success of the locally made sugars and pepper sauces under the Landship Foods brand.
CEO Hill described the work carried out by the IFSC team this past year as “phenomenal”, indicating that Agrofest was the perfect opportunity to celebrate and showcase innovations at the center. One such innovation is a new line of specialty sugars. He revealed that Food Scientist Kerri-Ann Bovell had taken locally grown sugar and formulated four new Landship Foods Sugars, each with a unique taste and texture – Light Muscovado, Dark Muscovado, Cinnamon Muscovado and Baker’s Sugar.
“We are taking some of the products we manufacture at scale, adding greater value to them, and then scaling and exporting them into various markets. Just recently, we received an order from the United States for our sugar at an excellent price. We are seeing those export numbers increase, especially within the bio-economy space. So, we anticipate that this trend will continue in terms of export growth, especially as it relates to biological products, food, pharmaceuticals and other biobased products,” the CEO expressed.
Brand Manager of Landship Foods, Negus Sealy, commented on the success of their range of sauces. According to Sealy, their Pepper Blast, Island Sauce, The Admiral, and Rum Barbecue Sauce have been extremely popular with customers.
“We are very proud of this line. These sauces are known for their unique blend of flavors and have been praised for their ability to enhance the taste of a variety of dishes,” Sealy expressed, adding, “We have had contact from people all over the world saying that there is a demand for Barbadian products”.
Landship Foods products were available for purchase throughout the three-day exhibition. A portion of the sales will be donated to the Barbados Landship, the local cultural movement from which the brand derives its name.
